The words, "solemn" and "extremely spiritual" are the words that were used to describe this school year’s Spring Week of Prayer held March 23-27, 2009. The theme for the week was “A Closer Walk With Jesus”.  Students and teachers were truly touched by the lively song services led by Mrs. Rowena Smith, Ms. Marcia Smith, and Mr. Roosevelt Wilmore and the musical specials that were presented by staff, students, and invited guests.  For the first time, students and staff came together and formed a musical ensemble that included 2 trumpets, 2 violins, 2 flutes, a saxophone, and a clarinet.  The music they produced was a blessing to all.

One of the many spiritual nuggets that the speaker, Elder Terry Tannis, ministerial intern at the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists told the students was, “God without us is still God, but without God, we are nothing.” He also shared 5 steps that we should take in order to get to Heaven. They were the 5 Ss.

On Monday, he told everyone to "Start Moving". We must start the spiritual journey. He went over the different safety instruments used in an airplane and compared them to the things we need to use in our spiritual experience. The seatbelt, for instance, is our principles. If we take off our seatbelt and there is turbulence, then we may get hurt or even die.

On Tuesday, Elder Tanis said that we must "Stop Pretending" because God knows exactly who we are. On Wednesday, he encouraged us to "Stay The Course". We must follow the directions that are given to us by our traffic controller who is Jesus Christ. He is the one who can guide us safely to our destination. On Thursday, Elder Tannis told us to "Stay Connected". We must always have a connection to Jesus. We are to stay connected through prayer and reading God’s Word. He told the students that they are slaves and may not even know it. “When you think you are enjoying the sex and the drugs, you don’t realize that you are a slave to those things. They end up controlling you,” said Elder Tanis. “Only Jesus can set you free, and you must try Him and see how awesome it is to live wrapped up in Christ.”

On Friday, he said that sometimes we are going too fast in life. We want to speed up life, not realizing that it is already at the correct speed. Therefore, for many, they will have to "Start Over". He spoke about a man in the Bible who was blessed with riches and wisdom and became too full of himself. He started to squander his riches and began to have many wives and concubines until he realized that none of what he had gave him the strength and security he needed. Solomon realized that the only thing that matters is God and that everything else is vanity.

Many students were touched by these inspiring words, and many surrendered to Christ. We thank God for these victories and will continue to pray for the students who requested further Bible study, special prayer, and baptism.
